What to Knit next??

That thought is always on my mind.  What to knit next?  If I don’t have an order ready to go on the needles or my crochet hook, what do I do.  I know you think that to, maybe not about knitting but about other things in life.  My life is planning, I like to know what is coming next.  Substituting is great, but knowing I have a job to go to 5 days a week, that is happiness!!

The Plan for now

Right now, I am working 5 days a week until May.  That is great for me.  Steady income.  I need that steady income.  Life needs income.  Wish it were not that way.  My Etsy site is income.  I love making for others, love their ideas about colors.  One of my favorites was the rainbow golf club covers.

It was great to not have 4 of the same colors to knit with.  Sometimes variety is great!!  I know this particular pattern well.  I have made a ton of these for sale and for gifts.  But I need more on my site.  That is always my problem, I have no idea what would sell that I could make.  What do you think, what could sell!  Let me know in the comments and if I can find a pattern, I can probably get permission to sell the finished  product.  Check out my website and see what is there and what is missing.

Family Life

So you know my family is very important to me.  I knit to make extra money to try and do fun things with my kids and as they turn into teenagers, that is getting more expensive. Much more expensive!  The free things we used to do they are not interested in anymore.

We have so many things to do in the Atlanta area and for my 2 kids, it will cost even more as I can’t get child prices anymore!! Even eating at church on Wednesday nights is almost 20 dollars for the 3 of us!!  So I am always looking for ways to make some extra money.

I know I could probably get a full-time job and work the 9-5 route, but then I miss out on doing things with them.  I miss being off on the summer breaks, the spring breaks.  So I find other things to do which is where my knitting and crochet come in.

It is always a great time when there are new movies coming out that I can share with my kids.  My son loves all the Star Wars movies, some more than others.  I love that since I am a sci-fi geek and love all those kind of movies.  He is also a history buff and we can share those kind of movies.

My daughter likes other things and now that she is becoming a teen, I am not sure what that is.  You know what that is like.  I keep talking to friends about middle school and how things are different but they are the same.  We joke about it but seriously, I have no idea sometimes what my daughter is thinking. I love her to death, and we share a love of knitting and crochet, but she has moved away from that and You Tube is her new thing.  I love it when she shares videos with me, cats are a favorite, but I always think, what would I have done if I had all this technology when I was growing up.  Probably watch this:

Knitting Along

As I type,  I am finishing up my slippers.  I will ship them on Saturday and I will post the finished product then.  Part of what I want to do is start adding to my Etsy Site.  I miss my cardigan but I will soon be back knitting that!!  You remember my cardigan:

My latest picture of my current knitting project.

In addition, I am considering of Easter stuff to add to my site, I found some really cute Easter baskets, then I am thinking of what to add for the summer.  Always looking.  If you have an idea, please comment below and let me know what you think!!

Ketogenic Diet

I will be talking about this diet occasionally as I will be restarting it shortly.  I had eaten this way in the summer and fall of 2017 and I felt fabulous.  No migraines, no joint pain, weight loss of 20 pounds until I fell off the wagon.  I am not a doctor but I know how I felt eating this way and it was not all that hard.  I found such wonderful recipes online, what a great resource.  So you might read here about my latest great recipe.  In addition I might link to one I think can be eaten by anyone even those not on this diet.

Well I am needing to attend to other things, so I will sign off for now!  As Always, Be Blessed!!

The Flu, DNA, and Me!!

What a week it has been!!  I am sorry that it has been so long since I posted, my life has been crazy!  The Flu, DNA, and knitting have all come into play!

The Flu

As you all know, the Flu has been rampant all around and it is not any different in GA.  So many people have been down for the count and it has touched my life too!  On Superbowl Sunday my husband took our kids and went to a friend’s house to watch.  I was down with bronchitis, but I was up to knitting and watching the game.  Just saying Go Philly!!  They came home and all was well with the world.  Till the next day when one of the kids my kids were with were hit with the Flu.  Then a couple of days later the other kid got it.  Then strep hit that house.  So I am wiping down everything and spraying the furniture with Lysol!

My first attempt at the adult slipper.

Too big for my foot!

With all that sickness it has become very rainy and dreary here, perfect time to knit but it also caused me a migraine that lasted 3 days.  Still dealing with it, but because of that I could not knit over the weekend and it was not good.  Remember I have the slippers to knit, and I am being paid for these so I am on a timeline.  Luckily I can get them out this coming weekend, I have already gotten started on another one.  This one in the picture was too wide and long, so I had to redo the pattern.  That happens a lot when I am redoing patterns.  Makes life a lot of fun!!  So I am halfway done with another one that is the correcting sizing for my order.  Thank God for the Olympics, I can knit to my heart’s content and cheer on our athletes!

DNA

Back at Christmas, my 14-year-old son who is big into geography, he won and went to the state competition last year for the National Geography Bee, really wanted to find out his where he came from.  So we got him a kit from Ancestry.com and sent it off.  Today we got the results and sadly he is our son!!

I’m Kidding!!!  We are actually kinda stoked from the results.  The coolest result is from the matches.  Now my Dad had an account so of course that was his #1 match but then there is this huge list of people who have similar DNA and are listed as cousins.  Alex and I decided to contact the first name on the list and JACKPOT!!

Turns out this is a cousin related to my Father-in-law and they live up in Massachusetts so in the summer when we go north, we have some new people to meet!!  It is amazing to me how connected we are in this world.  They have older kids but who know who else on the list of matches will be out there.  New adventures to be!!

Knitting Update

Well I am still working on the slippers as I stated above.  But I sneak in a few rows of my cardigan and I am so close to the separation of the sections.  I am going to work hard on the slippers to get them out of my hands so I can go back to the cardigan.  That is until the next order comes in.  I love getting orders as that helps me out, but I really want to finish my cardigan before Summer hits!!  It will be so pretty, love the color.  Here are some pictures just in case you missed my earlier updates on it.

I am so loving working on this project.  The yarn is yummy soft and the pattern is not too hard so I don’t have to think about it too much.  Makes me very happy to knit!!

Temperature Scarf

Well I have not had any time to work on the temperature scarf at all and if you want to work on it with me, click below and I will start sending out weekly updates on Sundays just like with the blog.

Not sure how to fit in this knitting, but I will.  Actually I might crochet this. I will use it as a relaxer for my hands.  Changing from knitting to crochet uses different motions and muscles and actually helps me to relax more.  As always, if you ever have knitting or crochet questions, you can always email me at cetrulson@knittingprettythings.com and I can try and help or if I can’t, I will find someone who can.  Until we meet again, Be Blessed!!

The Human Touch!

February is one of those tricky months. You have left the hopefullness of Christmas behind and Valentine’s Day approaches. Now if you are in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is great for you. You have that human touch, that connection. Celebrate it to its fullest. Buy a gift or better yet make one. I have some ideas that are pretty quick to make in a prior post. Get someone to make something for you. Find something that is meaningful to that person. Candy, flowers, jewlery (except engagement rings) are ok but really think about that person.

We are Family

I have been married for 22 years years in October and the fondest memory was when my husband gave me the gift of time. He took the kids and let me have a free day to do what I wanted. See a movie, eat out, be away and feel like me again and not Mom. I love being Mom, it is the greatest joy in my life and those kids are my heart! Are they not the cutest things you have ever seen!! My babies are teens and tween and I cannot think of my life without them or my husband. I met my husband in 1990 and besides my siblings, he has been part of my life the longest. My human connection.

Don’t go for the same old thing!!

There are so many ways to show you care for someone. Give it some thought. What is that person’s passion? For me a gift card for knitting supplies or getting my nails done is the Bomb!! A movie and dinner is awesome too! Going on a famly outing to somewhere fun is also great, love doing things with my kids. Stone Mountain, museums, World of Coke, The GA Aquarium. Just fun things. That means more to me then flowers that die or a card that will be thrown away. (I can’t stand clutter) Really put some thought into it. That is why I love things that are hand crafted. I love making gifts that I give or when someone orders gifts from my Etsy Site. There is nothing more special and something that was made just for you.

My work in Progress

The other day I got an order from my Etsy Site. I am knitting some Adult sized ballet slippers. Very cute but I have to adapt the pattern. So not stress relieving. I made the first one and it is just too big. So I punt and start a new one. Once I get the sizing right I will write up the pattern so I have it. You can see this listing here. I have a hard time creating patterns but I can adapt patterns well. Unless the author has explicitly asked for the pattern not to be altered. Which happens. So I am creating these slippers and the sizing can be tricky. Made one and it was way too big. Luckily it does not take long to make one so I can play a bit.

Birthday celebration

My beautiful daughter turns 12 today. How did that happen? She is my amazing, creative, and funny child. She has ADHD and that has always been a bump but we are working with everyone to help her learn to live her life as normally as possible. With all the teen angst that middle school brings, it is tough but on day at a time. And knitting! Crochet! Something to relax my mind and hers. She taught herself to knit and crochet, she is amazing!

Thank you for February but more Winter?

The ground hog came out today. Did not like Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction at all! So done with winter and January.  The cold weather is causing the Flu to become rampant and today as I type I am down.  Had a temperature over night, took Advil and now I feel better.  But still not 100%.  I want some chicken soup and sleep.  After I write this!!  But I am so happy it is February!!

Life is better since Tuesday

It was a rough week.  If you read the previous post, and a lot of you did, you know we had a major meltdown on my part.  My daughter is having problems in school and we need to get her 504 modified.  If you do not know what a 504 is, read this article.  It explains it much better than I could.  She has had one for the past few years and in elementary school it worked well, but that was in 1 classroom with 1 teacher.  Now that she is in middle school.  The multiple teachers and changing rooms is bringing out the worst in her executive function.  Or should I say the lack of it!!

Dear Daughter

My DD (dear daughter) cannot break apart tasks.  She see 1 big glob and drowns in it.  She gets frustrated, and feels like a pest if she asks for help.  Even though I tell her to ask, her teachers beg me to ask.  She acts like she is working but she cannot figure out how to start things.  Break it down.  Pull it apart.  Then she will come home and say she is working in class, which is what the teacher see.  She is not doing any work.  Then she does not turn in work and I find out too late with a zero posted for a grade.  So the 504 is being changed to have her work broken down and doled out in little bits.  Or that is my plan for it.

Great Resource I Found

I have been searching for what I can do at home to help her learn how to break things down so she can handle things better.  I found the website Additude Magazine and it has been a lifesaver.  So much stuff on ADHD.  Found some Facebook groups.  Been reading and learning.

A Friend saves the Day

One of my neighbors and Facebook friends surprised me on Wednesday.  She had the same issues with her son and a book was recommended.

I started to read it, have not gotten through much, but I know it will help me understand my DD and hopefully be able to help her.   So armed with this and the 504 I hope this semester will be better for my daughter.  I almost forgot, we also took her out of the gifted science class, that was just way way too much for her to deal with.

The Cardigan

I have had some time to knit this week, not as much as I wanted to.  Here is the latest picture I have of the growth.  It is now at 8 inches from the lace to the top.  I need to do 9.5 so I will get that done tonight.  With SuperBowl Sunday tomorrow, I will get in a bunch of knitting, not rooting for either team but really want the New England to lose.  I hope to get the cardigan worked in sections tomorrow so I can start getting to the fun part, the fitted sleeve!!  That will have to be a post alone!

When I feel sick, I love to knit, so soothing and it helps me relax enough to sleep.  I cannot wait to knit right now.  But I have to finish this up for you all!!  That would not be nice to do!!

Temperature Scarf

In a previous post I talked about a knit/crochet along and I have decided to do a temperature scarf.  Your choice, you can either knit or crochet it.  There are a few places I have found it and I think I want to use this one.  It is a knit pattern.  Here is the crochet version.  Get the free pattern or if you want to support that crafter, buy the pattern.  Here is where I am getting the temperature for the dates.  You can look it up by your zip code.   I really want to see what you are doing!!  Please join my email list for weekly updates.  If you want to be part of this, I will set up a special email list.  Click below and join in on the fun!!

                                  In Conclusion for Today

I really hope that you join me on this.  It will be fun.  Since I am sick I was not able to get out to get some yarn to start my crochet version.  My plan is to get out on Monday afternoon after doing a field trip with my son.  I will write about that on Tuesday, it promises to be fun!  I do have a favor.  My son is in a lottery to get a into a Math and Technology High School here in GA.  GSMST.  The lottery happens Monday the 5th starting at 7:30.  Please pray for his number, 314, to be picked to make it in.  If you think of it, just add that in.  Anticipation as He really wants to go there as he wants to be either a quantum physicist,, or a photonics engineer.  Way beyond me but he loves Science!!

In conclusion, as always, Be Blessed!!

When I really needed my Knitting….

My knitting saved my sanity!

Monday night was a really rough night.  For me.  For my daughter.

Let me explain.

My beautiful, funny, and brilliant (we have had her tested) daughter has ADHD.  My daughter was diagnosed 3 years ago and we have medication for it that is still being adjusted.  While my DD (dear daughter) was in elementary school with 1 teacher and the classroom, she was doing great.  Had a few bumps but she was sailing along, getting good grades, work being turned in.

DD entered Middle School and it seemed all was well.  There was a plan in place that we just moved over from elementary school.  Her 504 plan worked so well there.  In November, we lost my dad. DD was upset as she really loved her Opa.  I dutifully asked every day how was school, whether she had any homework.  Every Time I got the same answer.  I saw her do her homework and I thought all was good. Then I started getting emails.  Saturday school was scheduled.  I got very involved and it seems she got caught up.  Her failing grades moved back up to B’s.  Lower than I knew she could do but when you turn in work late, you suffer.  We cleaned and organized her book bag.  She got happy again and no more emails.

During Christmas break, we took out all the last semester’s work so she could start clean. I let her do way too much electronics, but it was break so I let that slide.  Then we had a really bad spell of weather and had to do cyber learning days.  First time for that and it did not go well at all.  On all sides.  At least the kids had time afterwards to finish up the work.  Again I asked and she showed me some of the work, she told me she got it done.

It Hits the Fan

My daughter with her GS Bake Off Entry.

Monday night.  I had gotten an email from one of her teachers saying she is missing work and her book bag was unorganized.  I was thinking, how could that be, we just cleaned it out.  There was only maybe 4 or 5 school days since the bad weather, how could it get that bad that quickly.  So I cleaned it out with her, reorganized it and all seemed well.  I wrote back asking about an email sent from the school about the changes to the digital learning and that I had told my daughter to stop working about many many hours of frustration.

I got an email back detailing how much work my daughter was missing in the last 3 weeks and that she was given extra time to finish the digital learning.  Keep in mind that I had asked her if she finished all that was missing from all her classes and I was told yes.  So when I confronted her about it, she got a sheepish look on her face, tears started and no words.  She knew that she had been caught.  She had no excuses, no way to get out of it.  I was lied to.  The red wall fell.

Let me just say I did not handle it well at all.  It was ugly.  I was ugly.  My stomach went into knots, my chest pounded, in my ears I could hear my blood rushing so I knew that if I had my BP taken, I think I would have been put in the hospital.  When I saw my face, red was not the word.  The anger grew and I could not be in the same room.  I had written back to the teacher, thanked her for the information as I was in total ignorance of what was happening.  That was not an excuse, but a fact.

I had included her school counselor and I had already had a meeting set up for Tuesday morning.  We had to change her 504.  Something had to be done.  I went on Facebook and asked for prayers and sent a private message to my sisters in Christ from my church group for help and ideas and prayers.  Those ladies saved my life last night.  And my knitting did too.

How Knitting saved me!

My latest picture of my current knitting project.

You ask how knitting could save me.  So easily.  If you have been reading my past posts, you know I have been knitting a cardigan for myself, so beautiful and I love the soft yarn.  When I start working on it, I feel the stress leave and a calm comes over me.  Those of you that have knit or crocheted for any length of time understand.

The rhythm of the needles, the repetitive movements, they sooth me.  I go to my happy place.  I so needed that place last night.  The clicking of the needles lulled me.  The rhythm slowed my heart and the blood sound in my ears disappeared.  My chest loosened.

About an hour later I was calm enough to go down from my bedroom and get a drink of water, say good night and fall asleep.  Not a peaceful sleep according to my Fitbit app, but I woke up with a new perspective.

I went to school with my husband and talked with the counselor.  She fully understood and we made a plan.  The counselor would talk to the other teachers and we would make a new 504 with a ton of new additions.

Here are the parts that will be set up next week:

The 504 plan would get my daughters work broken down to manageable pieces.  A system would be put in place  where my daughter’s teachers would initial her agenda so that they saw she wrote down her work and homework.  We would initial it showing we saw the agenda.  I will be told what was coming up with regards to her work so if any was missing, we would get my daughter caught up.

What is happening at home

Her father and I are setting up an organizational area so she can mark what needs to be done and check off as needed.  To Do lists will be started so when she gets home after school, she knows what is coming up.  Slowly but surely we will get this beast under control and she will be able to handle school.  She knits too, for the same reasons her mom does.  Calm.  Until Homework tonight and it begins again.  Until we get this handled that she can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My knitting will be my savior.

As Always, Be Blessed!

One Month In!!

One month ago I decided to jump in and start writing about what I love, Knitting and Crochet. I have seen other blogs and I thought I might be able to add to it. I want to show the public that it is not really as hard as you think to knit or crochet, it takes time and practice.

Why I love to craft with yarn

There is something so very calming about the rhythm of making crochet stitches or knitting along on the needles. A few years back I found a great article in the New York Times about knitting, Article. I do have to say it was not all that calming when I first started.

When I started, I was bad. I mean really really bad!! I have taught a few people to knit and crochet and at first you will be really really bad, you are your own worst critic. Keep at it and it will become 2nd nature. It is like riding a bike, you keep falling over until your brain gets the hang of the balance and BOOM, you are riding. Handcrafting is like that, you just have to keep at it and it will become easier. I promise. But back to how bad I was!!

There me and a skein of cheap yarn, knitting needles and a book. I few weeks before I had dislocated my shoulder and ended up having surgery to fix it. No school, had a tutor for 11th grade, and I was bored. My Godfather’s wife knit and I loved how she could make things. Well I wanted to learn, so my dad got me materials and I started.

I got casting on, and the knit stitch but purling was so hard. So I punted and just kept knitting. Then I dropped stitches and had to start over again. 6 times!! I put it down, 3 days later tried again. 4 start overs!! Put it down again and then 2 days later I got it! The knit stitch clicked and I started on my way! Just made a square but it was done!! Now to learn the purl stitch. Took a few days, but after 3 start overs, I got it!!

Then I decided to get some cool looking yarn and make my first wearable project a scarf!! Took me 6 months of slow and steady work during my rehab and school work, but I got it done!! I was so very proud! Many years later, here is that scarf, using a knit 2 purl 2 rib stitch and fringe!

I still wear this scarf as long as my kids are not wearing it! It is stretchy and comfy and I love the striping. The yarn is made to have the striping effect so if I started a new skein at a different color, it would look different and unique!

There are so many yarns out there and different ways to make things with both knit and crochet stitches and sometimes mixing both! It still amazes me!

Temperature Blanket of Scarf Crochet along

Well we are almost to February 1st. I am finalizing some colors and temperature ranges to make it pretty, but I am going to leave it up to the reader to decide if you want to make it a big blanket or a scarf.

The time will still be a year, that is the way to do these projects, but if you want to practice lots of stitches, I would make the blanket. My son is need of a blanket so I think it will be his at the end. Being almost 15 and so very tall (5’10” and still growing like a weed) he needs a long blanket!

I will knit a scarf and crochet a blanket, 3 rows or so per temperature week or a row a day if you want to do a daily temperature one. Your choice. I will make the post on February 1st very clear on each kind so you can follow along that way! This should be a lot of fun and a great way to practice a bit each day!

The knit scarf will be just using the knit stitch and the crochet blanket will be 3 rows of single crochet. If you need to watch some tutorials, check out my learning to knit and crochet pages.

Cardigan Update

The cardigan has not grown much, not had much time to knit this week. In the past 2 days, been working full-time and nights have been all about Girl Scout meetings and helping my daughter get organized. I substituted in a special ed pre-K class and as much as I love those little ones, I get mentally tired. Been falling asleep so early.

My daughter Banana Cake

Once I get done here, I will be knitting for the rest of the night except for dropping off my daughter’s Girl Scout Bake Off Banana Cake. This is her first try and she made it past the troop and on to the service level contest. Will be interesting and I will let you know!! Pictured was her last entry, it was delicious per the troop!! She will be making it for her birthday in 2 weeks, so it should be yummy! It is the Cadette Level Recipe for here in GA. It might be a national recipe. A full from scratch cake with homemade cream cheese frosting! I wish I were a judge tonight! If there is anyway I can sneak a piece, I will!!

This will be a busy week, Can’t wait to start on the temperature blanket and scarf! It will be so much fun!! As Always, Be blessed!!

Where to go……

Got back from an incredible weekend away with the girl scouts and I ended up sick. The dreaded stomach bug. So not fun!! It did get me thinking about where to go with this thing called Knitting Pretty Things.

Next Steps

I am thinking we should have a crochet along! A very simple crochet along that you can join in at any time. I don’t have a pattern I created for you to join in on.  I was thinking we could do a cool kind of Afghan that will take the entire year to do.

There are tons around, but one that I think is great is a temperature one. It will be pretty easy to do. We will add 3 rows every week in the color that corresponds to the temperature on the Monday of every week. This way we start off on January 1st.  Here is a link to the original post that I saw this one Facebook, which lead to a blog. LINK

I really love the idea of a crochet or knit along.  It is a great thing to jump in on, you don’t really need to be there from day 1.  You can do it at your own pace.  I think if we crochet or knit 3 rows a week, we can get a really nice sized blanket out of it.  Now you can also modify this to be a scarf, just use a smaller amount of stitches, maybe 30-40 depending on the yarn and needle/hook size.

Now I am not planning on giving you a pattern for this, I want to do this free-form and let you use your imagination!!  I promise to be there for it all and answer any questions anyone has, I just don’t want to lock anyone into something that they are not wanting to make!! I want this to be fun for you!!  If you are not good at knitting or crochet, I want to you check out my intro pages and watch some videos to get you more familiar!!  Here are the links to the pages:

Crochet tutorial

I will think more on this and then I will add more about the blanket later this week.  We still have a week to get it set up and started!!

The Cardigan Saga!

I wanted to show you what is up with my Cardigan.  It is coming along so nicely!!  I am very proud of the way the Cardigan is looking and as a result, I got many compliments!

Cardigan Jan 24, 2018
4 inches knit above the lace. Only 5.5 inches to go!

I am getting excited to see it growing  longer as the days progress.  The Stockinette stitch (knitting the right side row and purling the wrong side row) is quick, but with 238 stitches, it takes a while to knit a row!!  The more I knit in this color, I really do love it!  I just hope to be able to wear it before we get  hot weather.

Look how beautiful it looks! It is so soft also, this yarn is fabulous!!  As a reminder, this is a knit along that was on Craftsy.com in the fall of 2017.  It is called the Tea Leaf Sweater and it is a fun pattern.  If you are experienced in Knitting, I would suggest this pattern to you!  There are lots of things to learn on it, so it is always keeping me on my toes!

In Conclusion

Well it has been a crazy week!!  I have done some planning and I am trying to get a post here on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays!  Due to this, I am behind this week due to my illness, so I think I will post again on Saturday and then get into the groove!!  I am always wanting to know if you have a question or thought on what we should have in here, so please comment below and help a girl out!!  As Always, Be blessed!!

Weekend Getaway

This weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the year. I get to go away to a Girl Scout camp up in the Mountains in GA and be alone! No internet, no cellphone, no way for anyone to get in contact with me except to contact the Camp Ranger. A 3 day weekend that lets me recharge, meet other Girl Scout leaders and network, learn some new skills, and I get to teach. This year I am teaching how to crochet.

I love to crochet as much as I do knit, and to teach some leaders this relaxing skill so they can hopefully practice it and pass it on to their troops. There are 10 women that I will be teaching, one of which already has some experience but asked for help with some things.

I am so excited to do this. I got called this year to teach this class, I was not going to go this year but the leaders that run this asked if I could come and teach. Not having a lot of extra cash, I was able to get a scholarship and had cleared my weekend. Then I needed to set up what exactly I am teaching.

I am going with the thought that these women have no idea how to do this, so I am starting with the kinds of yarns, the kinds of crochet hooks, and then a basic chain and single crochet stitch to create a book mark. Then I will have them try to make a dishcloth square, just to get practice in.

I have a simple scarf pattern I got for free and I will try and help anyone that wants to start this scarf. That is my plan. I know that will not happen, but we shall see!! Had planned on giving them sheets, but we had a snow event here in Atlanta and I was not able to get out and get copies made.

I will try and do it in the morning, but my kids will be going to school late, a delay to the start of school, so I hope I can get that done early.

In past years, I have had a lot of classes and no free time. This time I decided I wanted a block of time for me, and I was going to give back by being a camp helper. I am so excited because I really want to get this cardigan done and quiet time to knit is just what I need. No Facebook or twitter or Pinterest to distract me, my phone can get FM radio so I will have music, and the campground is beautiful and peaceful, just what I need to recharge my batteries.

Here is the latest picture of the cardigan, I hope it is longer before I get home!! There is about 7 more inches before I start working on the left front, back, and right front sections.

Well I am going to sign off as I have a ton of things still to do before I leave in the early afternoon. As always, Be Blessed!!

Snow Day!!

What images do those words conjure in your mind?? For me, sleeping late,  a big cup of coffee, and Knitting or Crocheting!!  TV is on with my Amazon Fire Stick playing something I either need to catch up on or a series I am Binge watching.  Something I can mindlessly craft to.  HEAVEN!!!  Kids are doing their Cyber Day homework to make up for school being closed (new for our district) and this mommy doing laundry in between my crafting sessions.

These are the kind of days when I was growing up that I would love to sit and knit to (I learned to crochet in my 20’s) after I played outside in the snow with my siblings and the neighborhood kids.  Snow Forts, sledding down some pretty huge hills, snow ball fights, and then hot chocolate and soup with grilled cheese!  What were your favorite things to do when you had a snow day?  Tell me in the comments!!

Cardigan Update

Well this knitter is very happily working on her cardigan.  Here are some shots of how it has grown:

It is slow going as this is 228 stitches long, on a size 4 needle which is a pretty thin needle.  But I am about 8 rows from switching to a larger needle.  Here is how I finished on Wednesday Jan 17:

I have been very busy on this snow day!!  Now I have been thinking about the direction of where I want to go on this blog.  I would love to bring this knitting love to a lot of people!!

I would love to show you how to do this, there are tons of videos that I will look for to show you how to get started!

Check our my teaching page for knitting here.

Well this is a short post, I have knitting to do!!

Valentine’s Day

January 14th is the day I start thinking about Valentine’s Day.  It was at one time a busy time for me, I had some items on my Etsy site that were for sale for this holiday and just about now people started thinking about it.  1 month guys, that is all you have to think about getting your girl a special present!  If you want something made, you have to get it made now, handmade items take a while to make!  I mean you can buy flowers, candy, a card, but something made especially for the one you love really bumps up the meaning!!  Personally I just want a quiet day where I don’t have to cook, so dinner out to someplace nice is my kinda day!!  Leaves me more time to knit or crochet!!

So you want something special made, but what??  A sweater or cardigan is nice if she likes that, but you really need to order it now, takes weeks to make!  I have found some cool patterns that I think I will add to my Etsy site to offer for sale and they are pretty easy to make, so if you want to take a stab at them, you can download most of them for free.

Crochet Headband

Heart Dog Collar because you cannot forget your fur baby!!

Heart Bag or Boot Cuff

Valentine Knitted Heart Scarf

Valentine Knitted Hat

So you see, there are many different things you can do for Valentine’s Day beside the same old thing!!  These are just a few of the many that you can find out in the cyber world!!  Again, if you don’t want to make it, have someone like me make it for you and pay a little more, but something handmade is so special!!  One of my very favorite Christmas presents of all time is a vest that my mother-in-law made me, it is hand knit and came with matching turtle necks.  Even now many years later, when I wear it I get so many compliments and am proud to tell everyone where I got it.  One of a kind gift that still brings joy.  That is what handmade will get you!  So think handmade when you want to get someone something very special, it will make the recipient very happy and will be talked about for years!!

Now if you have read my earlier posts, you know that I am knitting a cardigan for myself.  It is slow going but I am really loving the way it is looking and as soon as I am done here, I will be back at it!!  I sign off and as always, Be Blessed!!
